Sky announce UHD launch date

Sky will launch its long awaited 4K UHD TV service on August 13. Available on the Sky Q platform, the broadcaster has outlined a comprehensive line-up of Premier League football, movies, natural history documentaries and entertainment, representing a massive commitment to the high quality format.

124 live Premier League games, including the first game of the new season Hull City v Leicester City, will be broadcast in UHD, along with over 70 movies to launch over the coming year, including Spectre, The Revenant, The Martian, Bridge of Spies, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials and Concussion.

Also due to get the 4K treatment are natural history programmes and documentaries, including David Attenborough’s Conquest of the Skies.

In addition to live broadcasts, Ultra HD will also be available through Sky's On Demand service and through Sky Store. What’s more, there will be no additional price hike to receive the 2160p service.
